What a Year That Was!

As I look back on 2019, I realise how much my business has developed since those early years back in 2009. I can’t believe that it’s 10 years since I moved back to Nottingham to live with my mum and to try to start a business. At that time, I was deep in debt and on my own after two failed marriages.

It was tough for those first 4 years then I met Julie who is now my wife and my life! Since then things have turned around completely. It doesn’t happen by hoping things will work out – it happens because you Believe and work towards your Dreams.

An amazing year

This year I have run my Masterclasses in Dortmund Germany, Dresden Germany, Berlin Germany, Stockholm Sweden. I have spoken three times on the Queen Mary 2 from Southampton to New York and have run the Masterclasses in Ireland three times – Dublin twice and Killarney once.

I’ve run these Masterclasses for Derby College 5 times, Trent University, Vistage Groups several times, Mitsubishi, Maximus, Armstrong Watson, Fisher German, Pilkington NSG Group, LazyLawn, plus many many more.

Bookings for 2020

It has been a wonderful year and I am already booking amazing things for 2020. It is great to be working with Live and Learn and PDW and all my contacts too many to name but you know who you are, and I am truly grateful!

Recently I came across this amazing article about one of America’s greatest presidents which made me think.

Abraham Lincoln

“Probably the greatest example of persistence is Abraham Lincoln. If you want to learn about somebody who didn’t quit, look no further.

Born into poverty, Lincoln was faced with defeat throughout his life. He lost eight elections, twice failed in business and suffered a nervous breakdown.

He could have quit many times – but he didn’t and because he didn’t quit, he became one of the greatest presidents in the history of our country.

Lincoln was a champion and he never gave up. Here is a sketch of Lincoln’s road to the White House:

1816: His family was forced out of their home. He had to work to support them.
1818: His mother died.
1831: Failed in business.
1832: Ran for state legislature – lost.
1832: Also lost his job – wanted to go to law school but couldn’t get in.
1833: Borrowed some money from a friend to begin a business and by the end of the year he was bankrupt. He spent the next 17 years of his life paying off this debt.
1834: Ran for state legislature again – won.
1835: Was engaged to be married, sweetheart died and his heart was broken.
1836: Had a total nervous breakdown and was in bed for six months.
1838: Sought to become speaker of the state legislature – defeated.
1840: Sought to become elector – defeated.
1843: Ran for Congress – lost.
1846: Ran for Congress again – this time he won – went to Washington and did a good job.
1848: Ran for re-election to Congress – lost.
1849 Sought the job of land officer in his home state – rejected.
1854: Ran for Senate of the United States – lost.
1856: Sought the Vice-Presidential nomination at his party’s national convention – got less than 100 votes.
1858: Ran for U.S. Senate again – again he lost.
1860: Elected president of the United States.

Don’t let your failures bring you down. Don’t be a quitter, persistence is the key! And that’s what Lincoln did.”

It’s a true blessing

I am truly blessed to be doing what I do and impacting so many people in a positive way. This year has been a success not because of me but the people around me. Great people who have helped me with all the bookings for the year and those who are helping me for next year.

People like Randy Haefner in Gibraltar, Robin Wells in Dubai, Dennis O’Connor in Dublin and Marcel Deveraux in Germany. Above all my wife Julie who is there for me day in and day out to pick me up when I am down and to champion me to keep going and finish well.

Thoughts for the year:

1. How has your year been?
2. Who has helped you during the year?
3. Can you go out of your way to thank them?
4. In 2020 seek out good people to help you on your journey – you can’t do it on your own.

Well that’s it for 2019 have a wonderful weekend and HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

Warm regards

John
